New beginnings...

That's the theme. So, we've finished the first week. So far, so good. Superkid is working pretty independently on the morning tasks, which helps me to work with my littles. One thing I'm hoping will stay consistent is we aren't schooling all day long, it's only taking a few hours to get everything done. I love that about homeschooling!

This week was totally made up by me. So, it doesn't give a good vision of what SOW is going to be like. I am really anxious to begin diving into our bible reading & learning! I think it's going to be one of our better years overall, since we'll be putting God first. :-)

Anyway, just wanted to check in to say - WE DID IT!!

What a neat book!

Superkid nearly begs me to read this everyday. Even little Pickles (3yog) gets into it, big words & all. We're planning to watch the movie after we've read the book. Looks like it will be awhile since we're on pg 42 and there are 304 pages...we've been reading it for two weeks now. Guess we'd better get busy. ;-)

Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation

Found out today that this book is really not directed at an 8yo boy.



He was trying, poor guy, but it's a little too advanced for him. So, I'll have to read it the night before & just summerize it all while he looks at the pictures. Too bad they don't have a lot of creation resources to offer. It makes it tough.



Oh well. We'll deal with what we have.

Day 1

I didn't mention it, but we started our first day of school today. He has had a great summer! (Besides one MAJOR incident that we won't go into on this blog...) But, altogether he had a good time - swimming, playing with friends, park time, micky d's, etc.


And, we'll still be enjoying the weather.

But, it's time to get back to work. :-)



Last night I had a long conversation with Superdad about how difficult it is to keep Superkid (8yo) on task after I've given him something to do. Dad came up with some good ideas. The main thing is to keep time limits and stick to them. SO, for math we came up with a specific amount of time - 10 minutes to do 45 problems. He came right down to the second just about, since he got up twice to sharpen his pencil...which kind of gives you a little example of the problem.



BUT, I have to say - I AM SO PROUD OF HIM!!!



He has been doing really good about staying on task today. I gave him the time limits & he's been staying pretty focused to get them done. I love to reward him when he's done well, so I'll have to think of a way to do that. What's really cool is that HE is proud of himself!!! He worked really hard on his handwriting and when he was done he kissed his page saying that it was his best work ever. ha ha ha He even said he was he was counting the reasons why he loved SOW. Isn't that funny?



Anyway, I just wanted to check in to say...we're off!!



Time to put our noses to the grindstone. :-)
